Part II OF “Renaissance - Tale of a Humble Village”
by WriterMarg
Euron was a dedicated servant to the crown, his God and fellow countrymen. He was a much beloved member of Renaissance, as his chivalrous deeds extended to the less fortunate residents. He was the one knight who regularly assisted the Troves with the needed clearing of the Kastane caverns, tirelessly ensured damsels safe passage across the Espadon and protected villagers from possible thievery to guarantee they received their much needed daily provisions in the rations lines.
Euron was often summoned to battle in a moment's notice yet for him these events seemed effortless. The complexity of the battle, the number of oncoming warriors or natural hazards at hand seemed as if irrelevant details to this competent warrior. No battle was too big for Euron who was an invincible swordsman, a nimble knight and seemed to know the opposition's every move before they did.
The townspeople constantly told the tale of “the Battle of Culdees” to their children. As the story goes, Euron, on one of his evening scouting patrols, single-handedly warded off hundreds of oncoming heavily armored knights & their foot soldiers in the far eastern region of Renaissance with one single blow from the catapult. The folklore surrounding Euron's heroic actions in battles, turned the head of many a fair maiden, not to mention his surprising sensitive side and unspeakable good looks.
Even though Euron was in close proximity to many a fair maiden in his work around the Main Gauche thoroughfare, his many rescues along the Espadon and nearby Assart forest, there had yet to be a lady who caught his fancy. Needless to say, this further fueled the gossiping frenzy in town, fed by the Daily Rumour's articles and digitally morphed portraits of the handsome Euron with one lovely maiden after the next along with a lengthy expose on the supposed courtship and why this one maiden would end his quest for the ideal mate. Angodor must have had a hand in these publications, as the villagers became so immersed with the Daily Tablet that their minds were diverted away, once again, from the more critical matters such as the merciless overtaxing, food shortages and sanitation issues that plagued the villagers. Of course, if Euron had his way, these tabloid topics would stop along with the total fabrication of all the young maidens he had been courting.
Euron was kept busy with other activities, for the time being, thanks to the recent discovery of a fine and precious metal. The unusual metal, uncovered in the mines by the Minor Gauche passageway, had amazing chemical properties. The metal was a rare blend; an impenetrable material suitable for weaponry, yet when fired at extremely high temperatures was pliable enough to sculpt precision molded armors and important weaponry such as maces or shields by Renaissance's Master Blacksmiths with lightning quick speed. The importance of securing the proceeds from the metal sales became immediately apparent to Angodor, so he assigned Euron as the head of the FTC (Federal Trade Commission), to ensure fair trading practices, but also to keep accurate counts on all metal output in the mines to insure money flowed appropriately back to the King and to deter would be thieves.
This was the beginning of a new day and age, though none could predict what was about to take place in the village, thanks to the discovery of the precious metal, not to mention some other surprises to soon unfold in the once simple village of Renaissance.
